WARNING:You may find the following content shocking as we strip away the misconceptions, misunderstandings and mistaken beliefs to bring you the bare facts in our skincare expose.

Should I wash my face more often to get clear skin?
You should wash your face twice a day (or three times if you exercise). Too-vigorous or too-frequent cleansing can your skin of its natural oils or irritate acne-prone skin and make the situation worse. Ditto when using harsh scrubs, which can inflame existing pimples.

My skin is so oily! Is drying it out the best solution?
No it's not. Keeping your skin balanced and clean is the goal, not drying the skin out. Oil production in the skin is a natural and vital part of its overall maintenance. If you dry the skin too much, it can become irritated and scaly while remaining oily. This over-drying often contributes to acne as the oil becomes trapped beneath the dry, flaky layer and becomes a source of inflammation.

Is moisturizer necessary, even if I have oily skin?
Definitely. Hydration is a necessary step for healthy and beautiful skin. Moisturizers prevent dry-out, and drying out your skin can actually trigger an increase in oil production. Instead of cutting moisturizer out of your regimen, try a lightweight, oil-free product to avoid clogged pores.

Could my chocolate obsession be causing breakouts?
It's not likely. Eating foods like chocolate, pizza or french fries won't necessarily cause acne, but everyone's skin is different. Keeping a well-balanced diet has been proven to drastically improve the look and feel of your skin.

Do I still need to wash my face after using makeup remover?
Cleansing is the most important part of your skincare regimen. It removes dirt, germs and bacteria that can cause breakouts. Makeup remover can do most of the job but you'll want to remove all remaining residue with a cleanser to help keep skin clean and clear.

Could my makeup be causing acne?
It's possible. Since everyone's skin is unique, the reaction yours has to different kinds of makeup can vary, so if you start using a new product and you're breaking out, switch to a new one. Any makeup can clog pores and leave unwanted residue behind. Be sure you're using an oil-free product and rotate applicators regularly since they often carry dirt and bacteria.

Does getting a tan help clear up acne?
While catching rays may temporarily help dry up oiliness and give skin a more even appearance, it's not worth the short-term benefit. Unprotected tanning leads to premature aging and puts you at a greatly increased risk of skin cancer. Sunscreen anyone?

Why are blackheads so difficult to remove? Aren't they just dirt on my skin?
Contrary to popular belief, the black inside a blackhead is not dirt, so it can't be scrubbed away. Dermatologists (skin doctors) say the dark stuff is probably a combo of dead skin cells and sebum (oil). Unlike a whitehead, a blackhead is a clogged pore that is open at the skin's surface, so the material inside oxidizes and turns darker when it's exposed to air.

Will popping my pimples get rid of them more quickly?
No way! You should never pop a pimple. It may seem like a good idea at the time, but it will actually aggravate your skin and could cause infections and scarring.
